About Our School

AUCP officially began in 1969 when a group of mothers of 2-year olds at the Arlington Unitarian Church Sunday School program decided to meet during the week as well.

They enlisted the assistance of Dr. E.M. Bridge, a retired pediatrician who also participated in the Sunday School program. Within three years, they had expanded from an informal parent-run volunteer program to a more formalized preschool program with salaried teachers, a parent orientation program, a policy handbook, and a modified Montessori curriculum for each age group.

By the end of the third year, the school had 54 students in four different classes. Over the years, much has changed, but the educational objectives and commitment to a cooperative approach have remained constant.
