Green programs

AUCP’s Environmental Stewardship

This year AUCP parents and teachers have worked hard to make our school more environmentally friendly and teach our kids how to care for the earth in the process. Here are some of this year’s eco-friendly innovations:
  • Water aerators -- We have reduced our consumption of water on our sinks by 75% by adding aerators to our faucets. If you would like to try this, visit http://usalandlord.com/5gpmfaae2.html to pick up dual thread aerators ($2 each) for your house.
  • Reusable plates and cups -- We purchased reusable melamine plates, cups, and bins to reduce our consumption of single-use paper plates and cups.
  • Green cleaning supplies -- We made the switch to green cleaning supplies so teachers, kids, and the planet can breathe a little easier.
  • County curbside recycling -- We now have the full capabilities of Arlington County curbside recycling. So you are now able to recycle things like plastics 1-7 (yogurt cups, margarine tubs), aluminum foil & trays, milk & juice cartons, paperback and hardcover books, rigid plastics (buckets, flower pots, toys), empty aerosol cans, and plastic bags (bag multiple bags in one bag).
  • Paper recycling in each class -- Now that we aren't making so much trash at snack time, we are happy to report that we will be converting some of our trash cans to paper recycling bins for the classrooms.

The AUCP community approach has greatly improved my parenting skills as I can learn from others.
